Thinking confined to the surfaces of things is ruled by analogies of light, luciferian metaphor. Attention too is largely ruled by visual cues or lures. Analogies of sound, of hearing might evoke an inside, purely musical. Will and representation, the former musical, the latter visual. Also the opposition of the solar and the oceanic. Music closer to the watery, at least in some late or post-romantic works, such as Tristan und Isolde or Pelléas et Mélisande. Scriabin perhaps tries to do the same for fire. Is anything in Bach, Beethoven or Mozart watery or oceanic? Composers become more 'wet souled' until they deliquesce completely. Deep structures of experience accessible only via symbols or symbolic complexes. light, sound, space, organism etc.
