Determinism, like the typical 'no self' views one encounters everywhere, is moronic. Of course there is a self in that how else can you understand others and by that understand yourself as well? If 'no self' is discovered it does not deprecate the practical self, or purposive action in any way, quite the opposite. It is about undoing a subtle metaphysical distortion, a putting of the cart before the horse, an inefficiency - indeed a distortion that gives rise to metaphysics altogether.
