If you were to build a sentient robot capable of reflection then it too would be forced to acknowledge that its own self-awareness was prior to its world-centred or objective awareness. This is because even if its core sentience were dedicated to modeling the world when it came to including itself in that model - which it necessarily would have to do to be at all adequate - it would be forced to acknowledge that everything it knows of the world, including the very terms in which its modeling was cast had to first pass through its awareness. Furthermore, it could be argued that every animal and even every insect in so far as it functionally models its world also incorporates itself in that model - how else, say, could it pounce on its prey? So the only thing that forces out hypothetical robot into being a non-dualist is its ability to reflect on its own functioning. This kind of question is like a modern koan, or at least like the 'mu' koan. Does a self-aware robot have the Buddha nature? Yes! (Ha ha!)
