Always beginning from the position of a general reader of his own words, he was justifiably surprised to find himself always speaking about the same things, to find the same preoccupations calling forth his most sincerely puzzled questionings. This seemed to be an inexcusable narrowing of the general reader's horizon, but it may also have been prompted by an over-hasty identification of sameness. The sameness was itself questionable, but that said, what was wrong with endlessly pursuing the same set of questions? Just as the same word repeated over and over again resolves into its constituent sounds out of which all meaning has evaporated, the same questions again and again might reveal something analogous to the materiality of sound, but on the level of meaning. Or again, and perhaps this is another variant of the same idea, what is revealed is the question having chosen the questioner as its vehicle, rather than the other way around - except that only by way of the questioner could the proto-question assume the shape of a question.
