The unmediated respect for the other is not for the other's consciousness or sentience, their intelligence or other gifts, but for their being as vehicle of their consciousness and sentience (if these two are considered as distinct) etc. If the other is unconscious or diminished in mind for one reason or another, their being is still considered as the vehicle for an undiminished potential of mind in full, and so we can project its inevitable realisation into an indefinite future or into the outside of time.
