The kinds of otherness of others that you encounter is a cultural and historical variable. It is more than psychological, more than other(s) versus the Other, etc., it maps to the kinds of metaphysical differences that you can conceive, which again affects your understanding of the world and its possibilities. And all of this can change in the course of a lifetime, but not easily or by choice.
