The drive towards reproduction of reality seems to be innate — and if it is currently trending technological and immersive and qualia-based this is far from the only or best way to go — and to have as its goal the realisation of a kind of free phenomenology. Imagine that you were raised from the dead to enjoy an hour of life, any life at all just as it is. The only thing that would be different would be a complete absence of expectation and habit and hence a maximum of wonder. Against a background of perfect nothingness all distinctions of good and bad, pleasure and pain, all judgments of high or low would be irrelevant, overlaid with a sense for being identical to an all embracing love and compassion. This sense ought to be available at any time and the real mystery is why it is not, if indeed it is not.
