Beauty at its most perfect is utterly without consequences, it is free of all nostalgia, sense of fragility or promesse de bonheur. Such beauty is not a value and does not impose or organise being in any way, it is merely noticed, like a timely overhearing of God's timeless silence and withdrawal. Neither present nor absent, but like presence in absence and absence in presence, a supreme sufficiency.
