Being in the world you are fully situated and yet as long as life remains everything is open for re-interpretation. The interest of consciousness, in the sense of being an interested party never ceases, never lets go of anything. Death is the point at which the horizon closes and all is simply what it was. The openness of consciousness moves on, emptied, having abandoned all that was.
