The finite being can become aware of his or her finiteness, that there are, as it were specified limitation, that there is a purpose that they are to serve, but this awareness cannot be assimilated, it becomes a source of anguish, a particular kind of affect with only such a being can encounter. The being was always already outside the intended limits, and so was always existing in that reflexive self-doubt and wonder. In this way it becomes the site of soul-making, of something beyond the finite but short of the infinite. There is no longer a fixed way, a strange new freedom dawns.
