The non-existence of the individual self that is often accepted on the basis of an overlap of Buddhistic and computationalist views would have the underlying fact of the matter be a congeries of fleeting sensations, memories and ungrounded assumptions of reflection, as if in a changed light that is all that would show itself, absent any belief. This random collection of events in mind however has the same level of reality as the abandoned self-idea and so can't be what witnesses its non-existence. It seems rather to be a change in boundary in which the concrete experience of self, which is unchanged, now separated from its customary mass of mental associations. It is the latter which are revealed as contingent and not now or ever capable of or even intended as the source or container of self. It is as if what dissolves is precisely the Buddhistic or computationalist notion of a self which is suddenly seen to have been believed all along.
