Not all cycles of absence, irritation and assuagement give rise to that special degradation of the soul known as addiction, but perhaps all that distinguishes them is the depth or tenor of the solace produced when the missing factor is recovered. Despite the soul's eager contribution to its own enslavement is largely true that the body with its extraordinary capacity for intensities all over the 'valence' spectrum, is the matrix of addiction. Are there then any addictions that arise purely from the spirit? Perhaps the biggest one of all, the addiction to having a body.
