Imagine the deep past as an infinity of things known, known because they are, but not known as known. (This reflective knowing is a completely different kind of thing, with its own inception - if not for that difference it would be Plato's ideal realm.) So you return and 'know it for the first time', and know also that that makes no difference to the completeness of the original knowing at all, which was a kind of identity.
