Each moment has its purpose, its care. Even if it is experientially passive it is a choice of the moment and frame of that apparent passivity, or a deflection of the active moment toward the horizon. And so each moment is a choice out of indefinite possibilities, and has the quality of realised and complete specificity as past. Understood in these terms however it seems as if a choosing subject must be present, as if presence is the pure determination of a constant underlying subject. This belongs entirely to the language and not to the phenomenon. The 'subject' is an artefact and once it is removed the strangeness of the event comes closer.
