Events, qualia, in the flow of experiencing are presencing because of the fine root extended into the background consciousness, but their character as presencing is not drawn from this ground but from their relations with all the other events in that flow, some of which are near and others far in time or space. The background does not have the character of presencing at all, does not even favour this. Experience is thus not limited to the conscious; the unconscious is what is related but not in time.
