It's not just that your desires and fears, your most existential turnings, literally tropes, are not what they appear, your entire experience is not what you take it to be, and you've always known this. It's that it requires a 'being taken to be', an 'it is like' and the one, the agent of these operations is not outside but inside the scene. The whole thing is a sticky web held together with the glue of doubt - doubt being the same as faith. For some this seems more apparent than for others, and indeed too much loose doubt is crippling but not as dangerous as too much loose faith.
