What is pre-reflectively evident is the life-world while the self is only a way of trying to grasp this totality by inversion of the point of view, like looking through a telescope backwards. So life-world does not mean the world where you happen to be trying to make sense of life, the encyclopedia of all of significances, but the interelational field that is yours in so far as you are being-life. It is perhaps better approached in a phrase like 'this breathing world', as if there were other possibilities, as if what you are has other ways of self-revealing than through life and its associated metaphysics, its poles of birth and death, time and space, self and other, whose limits are impossible to grasp from within. That is why you want to get yourself, your pure knowingness, to the edge of life, so that you can see the frame of all frames shimmer, to recover your original choice, made outside of time.
