Experience is engagement with and immersion in external reality, but as such it floats upon internal reality, the shifting and fluid world of motives, beliefs, goals, priorities, memories, reflections. You cannot conduct a coversation without rapidly shuttling between the two, and you take the bearings of inner reality as if they were stable, as if that is were you are. To unpack or get the most out of your externally focussed experience you need to shift the centre of it towards inner experience, but without interrupting the flows of intent, as when you become aware of the simple mechanisms that create a sense of rapport and welcome it even so. Later you come to see that it doesn't just rest on inner reality but is all in all a creation of it, only not quite in the way of a dream. Matters appear in continous and unpredictable novelty, but the distinction between predictability and unpredictability does not equate to that between the inner and the outer. The outer is a projection of the inner, but the inner is no less a projection of the inner. The spatial metaphor no longer serves here. To go into the inner of the inner is like entering a revolving door and always missing the entrance on the other side, You keep on going but only emerge where you started. It is only a sleight of mind, this apparent spatiality, this remove behind experience, all this subjective complexity. It's only one thing, not even superficial.
