There is a kind of understanding of something like a condition, but mostly a current set of embedded prospects, the suggestion of alternatives considering this or that element which might be changed; that here an active position can be taken and there a passive one is to be preferred - advance here, retreat there - do both at the same time. So it is not will, but the workshop of will, a thoroughly subjunctive mood. Build a model, look at a plan, all your years ought to have taught you something: does it grow from bottom up and is the impetus exhausted before it blossoms, or is it top-down, and all the rest a response which follows inevitably, subjunctively, upon a sufficiently free gesture? Will is a combination of intent and force, as if the former must come from the mind's power of clarification and the latter from the body's clarity of execution. But mind and body are tied in knots, so that pushing here is pulling there, with and against the other, and the poem of things, smudged duality, faltering and culpable, fails at failing.
