In the permutations around getting it right formations recur and drift endlessly. The same is discovered in the different, and the different in the seemingly same. The long history of slow changes reveals the framing of the questions responding to ever-new relationships of subjecthood and social knowledge. But the progress is illusory, the circus does what it only can, goes round and round; we won't be there to see it right. The question will never end with a display of general facts to an audience of such as ourselves. The drive towards such an us is the desire for a certain metaphysics, that there should be certain kinds of matters and that their way of being real should stand. This world where truth is in the collective self, the we, is not the same as the thinker's world of the generalised I. This latter is singular but is such as can be instantiated by any self. It is the one world in which each self finds itself alone and with others who remain other. It is its own answer to the question of reality, the basis for confirming any such being as might appear. If it is indeed the I which actualises this world out of all possible worlds then it is clear that it must be the same I for everyone, the choice function that crystallises the entire system of worlds and which therefore must be both within and without them.
