These questions arise because of the kind of individual who asks them who is as such an individual a cultural and historical product. But the aim of the questions is to go back to before the formation of such a being. So that just as much as external factors gather and focus such questioning they also hinder its by surrounding it with closely related lines of action and inquiry which are directed towards cultural horizons contaminated my metaphysical puzzles.

There is a sharper solution of continuity between lifeless matter and life in general than there is between the latter and self-reflective consciousness. But just as life with its wild and infinitely extending intelligence can be seen as a venture out beyond the boundaries of the self-organising propensities of matter, already fertile in wonders, so consciousness can be seen in us as hurling itself beyond the borders of life. Where is it trying to get to, whence comes the conviction that there is anything beyond its all embracing matrix?

Things have a strange life of their own, often they change in unforeseen ways, they respond to treatment, indeed can be conjured up out of only ideas and other things and can be modified or destroyed. Nothing in the mind is quite like this, here everything emerges out of latency, as if it had always been there acting from behind the wings but not guessed at until then, and things recede back into hiddenness in the same way.

There is no interface between consciousness and a world furnished with non-conscious objects, not because the two substances are of completely different kinds, so that only an object can affect another object and only something else already subjectivity can come to attention within a subjectivity. That way of posing the question is folksy but absurd. It is because there cannot be a witness to any such interaction, there is no position from which it could be validated. Any 'position' is either all one thing or all the other.

So much goes into fostering the illusion that it is earlier than it seems, that perfect repetition is possible, that matters reserved can be returned to later when the time is right, and so, to revive the eagerness for life that was experienced n childhood. Instead there is the dark unknown ahead and the certainty that all baggage will have to be surrendered, up to an including everything you think you are.

Layers of the onion; it's reflections, self-reflections, reflections in others, interpellations, mirror images all the way down. You cannot undo all of these but only neutralise them by not identifying with the images, standing aside or occupying the unreflected and unreflectable point. Why should capture be so easy? There is immense pleasure in it, even when it refers only to pain.

- Between theory and meta-theory you must choose theory - but in a way that is cleansed of all trace of (latent) meta-theory. The same logic applies in many cases, especially when 'theory' is replaces by 'theoria' and 'meta-theory' by 'theory' (as commonly understood.)
